Cats just know.

Some people walk around in the world with the assumption that cats are emotionally detached, aloof, and independent to a fault. They could never be more wrong. Any person who has ever had a cat - as wild and silly as cats can be - knows that cats are affection-giving specialists with a care engine that runs on purrs. Cats aren't distant, they're just choose who they get close to. And when they do - cats really do show they care for their humans. Once you've been chosen by a cat, you've won a fluffy friend for life.

Since we're proudly and unapologetically cat people, we know that cats care. We see it with our own cats, who offer a comforting paw when we're sad, or snuggle next to us and purr when we're sick. But we also know it from the many wholesome stories of the online feline family, and specifically ours. We asked the lovely cat people over at the I Can Has Cheezburger Facebook a simple thing - to tell us about all the sweet and tender times their cats showed them that they care and displayed affection.     Victoria Texmo McCracken I had to spend 4 days in the hospital for surgeries, and when I came home, this is a picture of Bob getting in my lap. Bob is seventeen years old, He has never got in my lap before. He is simply not a lap cat. I believe this demonstrates that he was genuinely concerned for me. Either that or the cat sitter was not functioning to his liking.

  • Well, she has a point. Cats are willing to tolerate a lot from the people they love, including extra cuddles than necessary, or sweet face smooshes they somehow allow their pawrents to do. So even a simple lack-of-gesture by ignoring the “oh my gosh I have to squeeze this creature” sentiment we sometimes express towards our cats actually shows a lot of love towards us.

    Nikki Morey My girl Weiss helped me with her big brother. My old man (he's 10) ate too much and then chucked it on the floor. While I checked on him and went to grab paper towels to clean it up, Weiss ended up grabbing tissue paper I had out for gift bags. She covered up the pile and was pushing it around like she was in a litter box. I lost some sparkly paper to cat puke, but was just impressed with my munchkin trying to help out.
